A 21-year-old Beaumont man is recovering in a Houston area hospital from multiple gunshot wounds he said were fired by a friend.

At about 2:45 a.m. this morning, Patrol Officer responded to the Christus Saint Elizabeth Emergency Room in reference to a shooting victim.  The black male victim, who was alert and conscious, was suffering from gunshot wounds to his hand, and head.  He told officers that he had been involved in an earlier disturbance with another black male.  The victim, thinking the disturbance had been settled, then fell asleep.  The victim awoke to his friend standing over him with a gun.  The friend then fired multiple shots at the victim. A third party drove the victim to the emergency room.  The earlier disturbance and subsequent shooting both occurred at a house in the north end of town.

ER physicians stabilized the victim before he was flown to Houston for further treatment.  ER Physicians stated that the wounds were not life threatening, but there was a possibility he would lose one of his eyes.

Officers did identify the alleged shooter as a 19-year-old Beaumont man but made no arrests because the victim refused to file charges.
