At approximately 9:10 AM, Beaumont Fire Rescue units responded to a reported apartment fire at the apartments located at 5080 Helbig Rd. There were multiple calls reporting the fire. When firefighters arrived, they found the living room on fire in one apartment and the fire was quickly extinguished. There were four children, ages 14, 11, 9, and 2, at home at the time of the fire and they were able to escape before firefighters arrived. The fire was confined to the living room and there was smoke damage to one other apartment. The fire was caused when one of the children struck a lighter near some spilled alcohol. One child was burned on the hand and transported by Beaumont EMS for treatment. The other children were not injured. Red Cross was called to assist the family.
