BEAUMONT SCHOOLS WILL BEGIN CLASSES MONDAY, AUGUST 24TH.   EXCITED CHILDREN WILL BE TRAVELING TO AND FROM SCHOOL AND EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES, BY FOOT AND DIFFERENT FORMS OF TRANSPORTATION. THE BEAUMONT POLICE DEPARTMENT WOULD LIKE TO OFFER THE FOLLOWING SAFETY TIPS IN AN EFFORT TO ENSURE THE CHILDREN’S SAFETY:

BE MINDFUL OF SCHOOL SAFETY ZONES. OFFICERS WILL BE VERY DILIGENT IN THE PROTECTION OF THE CHILDREN. OBSERVE THE POSTED SPEEDS AND AVOID DISTRACTIONS WHILE DRIVING. DO NOT TEXT OR USE CELL PHONES WHILE OPERATING A VEHICLE.

CROSSWALKS WILL BE MONITORED BY OFFICERS AND SCHOOL CROSSING GUARDS. INSTRUCT YOUR CHILDREN TO CROSS AT MONITORED CROSSING SITES WHERE PROVIDED.

IF YOUR CHILD WALKS OR RIDES A BIKE TO SCHOOL, YOU SHOULD TRAVEL THAT ROUTE WITH YOUR CHILD A FEW TIMES SO THEY KNOW HOW TO GET TO THEIR DESTINATION. ALSO, MONITOR NEIGHBORHOOD ACTIVITIES DURING THE HOURS THAT YOUR CHILD WILL BE TRAVELING TO AND FROM SCHOOL SO THAT YOU MAY CHOOSE THE SAFEST ROUTE. IT IS ALSO A GOOD IDEA TO VISIT WITH PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THAT AREA AND DESIGNATE A FEW “SAFE HOUSES” THAT THE CHILDREN COULD RUN TO IF THEY ARE IN NEED OF HELP.

SCHOOL BUS SAFETYIT IS A VIOLATION OF THE LAW TO PASS A SCHOOL BUS WHILE IT IS LOADING OR UNLOADING. CHILDREN MAY DART INTO THE STREET WITHOUT LOOKING FOR ONCOMING VEHICLES. ALSO, MAKE SURE THAT YOU VERIFY THE BUS NUMBER THAT YOUR CHILD IS TO BOARD AND THAT YOUR CHILD IS FAMILIAR WITH THAT NUMBER.

CITY TRAFFIC WILL INCREASE TREMENDOUSLY WHEN SCHOOL STARTS. IN ADDITION TO INNER CITY STREETS EXPERIENCING CONGESTION, THE FREEWAYS WILL ALSO EXPERIENCE DELAYS. BE MINDFUL OF THIS SITUATION AND LEAVE YOUR HOME EARLIER TO ARRIVE AT YOUR DESTINATION ON TIME.
