On Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 11:45 p.m., a Beaumont Police Officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle in the 4600 block of Harding. The driver of the vehicle fled from police and drove into an apartment complex in the 5000 block of Helbig. The driver stopped the vehicle in the parking lot of the complex and fled from police on foot. Officers were able to quickly apprehend the suspect, Derrick Cooks, a 19 year old Beaumont Man. Cooks was placed under arrest and transported to the Jefferson County Jail where he was booked in for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Evading Arrest/Detention in a Motor Vehicle, and Resisting Arrest/Detention.
