On Thursday, July 2, 2020, at 6:19 pm, Beaumont Police Officers responded to gunfire reported at Smoothie King, 4012 Dowlen Road. Officers learned that the suspect, later identified as Kayani Harmon, age 19, from Beaumont, had a previous relationship with the victim. The doors to the business were locked due to COVID 19 protocols. The victim would not open the door and did not wish to speak with Harmon. Harmon became enraged and pulled out a handgun she was carrying and began to fire into the business.

While the Beaumont Police Department Patrol and Criminal Investigation Divisions were continuing the investigation, they responded to a Robbery in progress at 5975 Fannett Road. This additional victim stated that the suspect, again identified as Harmon, pointed a handgun at them and later stole their Chevrolet Suburban. Officers quickly located the stolen vehicle in the 5900 block of Fannett Road. Harmon fled, in the stolen vehicle, from officers.

As Harmon was fleeing from police, a female passenger, later identified a Shayliah Prescott fled on foot from the stolen vehicle in the 3800 block of MLK Jr. Parkway. Prescott was quickly arrested.

Harmon continued to flee from officers in the stolen vehicle and crashed into a light pole in the 1700 Block of E. Cardinal Drive, where she was arrested.

Harmon’s initial charges for her crime spree include Aggravated Assault, Terroristic Threat, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Burglary of a Habitation, and Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon. Harmon’s bond was set at $140,000.00.

Prescott was charged with Evading Arrest/Detention. The Beaumont Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division is continuing the investigation.
