Beaumont Police Department Introducing Mental Health Liaison Officer

The Beaumont Police Department has teamed up with the Spindletop Center to provide additional resources for intervention and assessments of mental health. The Mental Health Liaison Officer (MHLO) will focus on building relationships and following up with Spindletop Center clients to reduce the number of incidents requiring a law enforcement response. The numbers of calls for service Beaumont Police Officers have responded to, in reference to assisting someone experiencing a mental health crisis, have almost doubled from 2016 to 2017. This position is under BPD’s Police Community Relations Unit and is another example of how committed the Beaumont Police Department is to serving, protecting and understanding all members of our community.
