On Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at 9:45 p.m., Beaumont Police responded to the intersection of Franklin and Ave E in reference to a major traffic crash. There were several independent witnesses to the crash and preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a green Buick was traveling Southbound on Ave E and disregarded the stop sign at the intersection of Franklin. A Nissan SUV was traveling Westbound on Franklin, carrying 5 occupants and was struck by the Buick. As a result of the crash, Landon Slaughter died from his injuries. Landon would have been 4 years old next week. A 2 year old child sustained injuries and was transported to a Houston area hospital, listed in critical condition. The other 3 occupants of the Nissan SUV sustained minor injuries. The driver of the Buick refused transport from EMS and cooperated with the investigation, however he was later found to have internal injuries and was transported to a Houston area hospital for treatment. The investigation is on-going and charges are pending.
