On Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at 2:36 p.m., Beaumont Police responded to Eastex Freeway (Southbound) near Cole in reference to a major traffic crash. Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a GMC Yukon was traveling Southbound on Eastex and lost control, striking the inside guardrail, another vehicle traveling Southbound, then rolling toward the service road. The driver of the Yukon was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The fatality victim (driver of the Yukon) was identified as Charles Edward Wooten Jr., a 40 year old Beaumont resident. The investigation is on-going.
