“Regardless of race, socioeconomic level or previous achievement…children who read more books fared better on reading comprehension tests in the fall than their peers who had read one or no books over the summer. …Studies since the 1970’s have pointed to reading as one way to stem the summer learning losses and bridge the achievement gaps that widen over time….”

“Reading books is found to ward off summer slump.” Education Week. May 4, 2004, Vol 23, Iss 34:12. Proquest. Webster Schroeder High School. 28 April 2005

The goal of the annual Summer Reading Club in Beaumont is to help students to return to school at the same reading level or better when they return at the end of the summer. To accomplish this we offer prizes (including books, t-shirts, coupons and more) for taking part in our reading program. We also want to encourage students to visit the library with their parent(s) to enjoy the activities the library system offers throughout June and July; hoping to encourage the borrowing of books to read throughout the summer. Registration begins June 3, 2016 either online or in your local branch library. Pre-registration begins online on May 29, 2016.  You may register online by visiting the following links:  For Children age 3 – 18     For Children under age 3

To Kick-Off a Fun Summer, stop by Roger’s Park on Dowlen Road to enjoy games, activities and refreshments on June 4, 2016 from 4 pm to 6 pm.

Please Note: All programs and activities throughout the summer are FREE and open to the public. Stop by any branch library for a list of activities.
