On Sunday, September 6, 2020 at approximately 2:50 p.m. Beaumont Police were dispatched to the area of Arthur and Cleveland in reference to a subject in a white Malibu pointing a gun at the complainant. While en route dispatch advised that the suspect actually fired shots. As soon as officers arrived the vehicle quickly sped away and officers gave chase stopping the vehicle in the 4100 block of Harding, where the suspect was taken into custody. The suspect was identified as Benjamin Garrett, age 46 from Beaumont.
Inside the vehicle, officers recovered two firearms along with several types of illegal narcotics. Garrett is also a convicted felon, who was recently paroled. He was arrested and transported to the Jefferson County Jail where he was booked in for Aggravated Assault, Possession of Controlled Substance, Felon in Possession of Firearm, and Evading in a Motor Vehicle.
