On Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 2:30pm, an 85 year old citizen of Beaumont returned home to her residence in the 1400 block of Scantilly Dr. She went to get her groceries out of the trunk of her tan Toyota Camry and was approached from behind by a black male juvenile. He asked her for $5.00. She told him she didn’t have it, he thanked her and turned to walk away. She went back to her open trunk, he ran toward her, knocked her down and caused injury to both her wrists. He pulled her purse off her shoulder and took her car keys. He closed the trunk, got into the her vehicle and sped away. The suspect left a car he was in, a 2006 PT Cruiser, in front of the victim’s home.
Officers were able to respond quickly and broadcast the description of the victim’s vehicle and the suspect vehicle that was left behind. Several officers and dispatchers remembered a call from a grandmother earlier stating her grandson had stolen her vehicle. The vehicle was a PT Cruiser, but she hadn’t made a report yet. Officers went to the area of Grant and Pear and located the juvenile in the stolen Toyota Camry. Officers initiated a traffic stop and he was arrested without incident. He is a 14 year old male and was transported to the Beaumont Police Department and then to Jefferson County Juvenile Correctional Facility. He was booked in for Aggravated Robbery. Other charges are pending.
Officer Tony Harding is the point of contact for this incident.
