BPD Detectives have obtained a Murder Warrant for Jaquavian Mayberry, a 22 year old Beaumont resident, in connection with the June 7, 2018 Homicide of Marcus Mitchell. Mayberry was just taken into custody by the U.S. Marshall’s Fugitive Task Force.

On Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 9:59 p.m., Beaumont Police responded to a victim of a shooting call at Cypress Bend Apartments located at 1450 N. Major Dr.
Officers arrived to find a victim on a stairwell in the apartment complex. The victim was non-responsive and had multiple gunshot wounds. Beaumont EMS arrived on scene and pronounced the victim deceased. The victim was later identified as Marcus Mitchell, a 37 year old Beaumont resident.
During the homicide investigation, Detectives received two suspect names and information that they were possibly driving a stolen black BMW.

On Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at 1:25 p.m., a BPD Officer was patrolling in the 2100 block of Washington when he observed a stolen black BMW with two occupants. The officer recognized this as an active stolen vehicle and recognized the driver, KENDRICK MALBROUGH, as a person of interest in the recent homicide. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, however Malbrough fled from police. The brief pursuit ended in the 2200 block of Rockwell. Malbrough fled on foot and the passenger, Jaquavian Mayberry remained in the vehicle. Mayberry initially lied about his name, however once positively identified, he was found to have a probation violation warrant out of Marietta, Georgia. Malbrough was located hiding under a residence in the area. Officers also recovered two handguns. Malbrough and Mayberry were taken into custody and transported to the Beaumont Police Department to speak with detectives. They were later transported to Jefferson County Jail (charges listed below).
KENDRICK LERON MALBROUGH, 22 year old Beaumont resident, was charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Evading Arrest/Detention with Previous Convictions, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and two warrants for Evading Arrest/Detention Previous Conviction and Evading Detention with a Motor Vehicle.
JAQUAVIAN MORRO MAYBERRY, 19 year old Beaumont resident, was charged with Fail to ID-Fugitive and Possession of a Controlled Substance. (drugs that were later found hidden in his clothing)
As the homicide investigation continued, Detectives were able to obtain additional information linking Mayberry to the Homicide of Marcus Mitchell. On September 22, 2020, Detectives obtained a Murder Warrant for Mayberry and today, Officers from the U.S. Marshall’s Fugitive Task Force, took Mayberry into custody. Detectives are still actively investigating this case and expect additional suspects to be charged in connection with this homicide.
