At 2:20 A.M. on 6/19/2016, Beaumont Police Department’s patrol officers were dispatched to The Getaway Bar and Grill located in the 5700 block of MLK Parkway, in reference to a disturbance. As officers were speaking to the parties involved in the disturbance, they heard gunshots coming from a convenience store nearby. Officers quickly responded to the area of the gunshots and upon doing so, observed a white Dodge Nitro SUV rapidly accelerating away from the convenient store. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, which was occupied by 23 year old Jeremy Jenkins and 21 year old Vonte Williams, but the driver evaded. After a short vehicle pursuit, both Jenkins and Williams abandoned the vehicle and attempted to evade on foot. Both subjects were subsequently captured, thanks in part to the help of a Lamar University security officer. Jenkins and Williams were transported to the Jefferson County Jail, and booked for evading. It was later learned that due to the gunshots being recklessly fired, a male victim was struck with a stray bullet inside the convenience store. The victim’s injuries did not appear to be life threatening. It is unknown at this time who is responsible for the shooting, as investigators are diligently working the case.
