On Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 3:40 AM, Officers responded to a vehicle crash at 1005 Eleventh St. ( Calder Baptist Church). The vehicle and a tree were reported to be on fire. Upon arrival officers observed a white Dodge Challenger partially inside the wall of Calder Baptist Church and fire was coming from the engine compartment of the vehicle. Officers had to break the window to get the driver (sole occupant) out of the vehicle. EMS arrived and transported the driver to St. Elizabeth where he was pronounced deceased at 4:15 AM. The Challenger appeared to have been traveling West on Long and drove straight across 11th street and did not stop until hitting the church. The BPD Traffic Unit responded and took charge of the investigation.
The driver was identified as Mark Anthony Brown, 25 year old Beaumont man.
