The Maurine Gray Literacy Center helps adult students achieve their literacy or testing goals.  Students are evaluated upon entering the program, and progress is closely monitored by staff.

  • Programs Offered

    The program is affiliated with ProLiteracy America, a national literacy organization.

    We offer:

    • Basic literacy tutoring
    • English as a Second Language (ESL)
    • GED preparation
    • Citizenship test preparation

  • Eligibility

    To be eligible for tutoring students must

    • be at least 18 years old
    • be willing to meet with a tutor for one to four hours a week for at least six months
    • provide their own transportation to an approved tutoring site
    • be able to attend a lesson at least 60 minutes.
  • Cost

    • There is a one-time registration fee of $10.
    • All materials and support are provided.
  • Materials

    • Students can utilize Mango Languages – ESL software to help them learn English!mango

      • You will need a library card and an email address.
    • Learning Express Library is an excellent online resource for potential GED students to see what the GED test is all about, as well as to prepare for the test itself using the tutorials and study guides available.   You can access Learning Express Library by clicking on the button to the right.
    • All materials will be provided.

Tutor candidates are carefully screened to determine their understanding and knowledge of working with adult literacy students.
