An argument between people in a north end-housing complex resulted in a shooting that left a 37-year-old Beaumont man dead.
Sunday evening, August 31, at about 7:24 pm, patrol officers responded to a reported shooting at the Northridge Manor Apartments located in the 4000 block of Maida. Upon arrival, officers located Herbert Chopane suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. Beaumont EMS transported Chopane to St. Elizabeth ER where doctors pronounced him dead.
Detectives are still in the early stages of this investigation and initial reports indicate that Chopane went to the apartment complex seeking retribution for an earlier disturbance. When Chopane arrived at the complex, a second disturbance broke out and an unknown suspect shot Chopane.
Detectives are in the process of interviewing possible witnesses to confirm the identity of the people involved in the original disturbance. Detectives feel that that same group may have been involved in the second disturbance that resulted in the shooting.
Detectives are asking any person who has information about this incident to phone them at 409-880-3843. People with information may also leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 833-TIPS.
Sgt. Flores is the PIO assigned this case.
