Beginning August 1, the Elmo Willard Branch Library is offering a New Early Literacy experience to the community. The new service is Launchpad produced by Playaway. Launchpad is a standalone tablet just for kids, but adults will love the way they can check how well their children have been grasping the concepts on the tablet. Each Launchpad tablet is loaded with high-quality, add-free learning apps and games, providing hours of interactive learning and play.

The Launchpads are grouped by subject area, theme, grade level, and age. Content spans subject areas from math and science to critical thinking and creativity, and themes from princesses to animals, fantasy, nature and more.

Kids will love the Launchpad experience which lets them design a personal avatar before game play and choose an app adventure they’re most interested in. Adults will love that Launchpads are 100% secure, not connected to the internet, ensuring that their children will not be exposed to unwanted content, and the informational console lets them monitor how time is spent on the tablet.

The Willard Library will be offering Lauchpads for ages 3 – 5 & 5 – 7. There are a variety of tablets available for loan only at the Willard Library. One tablet can be borrowed per adult library card. Each Launchpad will be loaned for one week with no renewals. Because the collection is so small, holds cannot be placed at this time. The tablet must be borrowed from the Willard Library since this is a pilot program and must be monitored closely. The tablet can only be returned to the Willard Library as well.

Lauchpad tablets will be available beginning August 1 in the Children’s Department at the Elmo Willard Branch Library 3590 East Lucas Drive. Ask the staff members any questions you may have about Launchpad or the rules for borrowing.
