Rain or Shine – the Beaumont Farmers Market happens every Saturday morning from 8 AM to 11 AM under the pavilion at the Beaumont Athletic Complex. With a tagline of “locally grown, locally raised, and locally made,” this outdoor market has everything from soaps and sugar scrubs to homemade jams and treats. It’s free to attend, and there is always plenty of parking. They operate almost year-round from mid-January to mid-December (and have been doing so since 2010). Get there early because popular items do sell out.
Farmers and small businesses are a vital resource in Southeast Texas, and by buying local produce and other goods, you are supporting the local agricultural industry each and every week. Plus, you can guarantee that your food will be fresh, healthy, and ready for you as each vendor must be from a 150-mile radius of Beaumont. Vendors are also invested in the community, with folks like Donna’s Farm giving kids a free flower each week and Sherie’s Garden giving each child a free jar of salsa with proof of straight As.
Taste the Flavors of SETX
Since everything sold at the Famers Market is local, you are getting the best tastes and flavors of Southeast Texas! It is a producer-only market, which means vendors must grow or make everything they’re selling in the market; there’s no reselling. The producers of the Beaumont Farmers Market visit all the farms and kitchens to guarantee what they’re offering is of the highest quality for the community. It also allows the staff to develop a relationship with the producers and increase appreciation of the hard-working vendors and the distances they travel to bring the freshest foods to market.
Entirely run by volunteers, the Beaumont Farmer’s Market is a great place to connect with other like-minded folks and start some new “fresh” friendships or help out a few hours a week. Whether you’re just starting your healthy food journey or looking for a new way to give back, there are people ready and willing to help you make the best choices for you and your family.
The addition of SNAP comes with an educational component to help the farmers understand how they can directly help increase community access to healthy food, drive sales and increase their bottom line.
It’s Affordable for All
Since May 2022, the Beaumont Farmers Market has accepted SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits on eligible produce. Using your SNAP coupons at the market is the same criteria as at the grocery store. You can purchase fruits and vegetables, meat, poultry and fish, bread and cereal, seeds and plants which produce food for the household to eat, and other foods such as snacks and non-alcoholic beverages.
Most food vendors at the market take SNAP; just look for the sign on their table, and there are greeters who can direct you to the Information Booth in the middle of the market. There is dedicated staff to help with the EBT card reader, so tell them how much you want to spend, swipe your card, and you’ll get unique market dollars that can only be spent in the Beaumont Farmers Market while reimbursing the vendors for their purchase.
If you’re a first-time customer, they suggest you start with a small amount, such as $20, as you can always come back to get more. If you don’t spend all your Market Bucks that day, you can return and use them another time – they never expire.
