A 45-year-old Beaumont man is dead and his 35-year-old brother suffered a stab wound after they fought over which television program to watch.

At about 12:32 a.m., January 11, Patrol Officers responded to a house in the 2000 block of Ives when an elderly man phoned our 911 Communications Center and told them that his two adult sons were fighting.  He also told dispatchers that his older son was unconscious.

As officers responded to the address, our 911 Communications Center received a second phone call from a person at a house in the 1900 block of Ives who reported that the younger son had run to their house after being stabbed.

Officers arrived and summoned Beaumont EMS who transported both brothers to St. Elizabeth ER.  The older brother later died at the hospital and the younger brother received stitches for a laceration to his buttocks.

Witnesses at the scene told officers that the two brothers began arguing over what television show to watch.  During the argument, the younger brother began to change the television channel and the older brother attacked him with a sharp object. A fight broke out and during the fight, the older brother was rendered unconscious.  That is when the younger brother was able to escape and run to the neighbor’s house.

Detectives are investigating the death as a homicide.  They made no arrests at this time pending further investigation and presentation of the final case to the grand jury.
