Shortly after 6:00 AM, Beaumont Fire Rescue units responded to Fletcher Elementary School, 1055 Avenue F. Upon entering the building, the custodian had discovered smoke in the building and also reported a sprinkler activation. When firefighters arrived, they found there had been a fire in one of the offices. A single sprinkler head had activated and extinguished the fire. The fire was contained to the one office but there was smoke throughout the building and water in a large area. The fire forced classes to be cancelled for the day. The fire appears to have been caused by an overheated extension cord.
