This afternoon, Beaumont Firefighters were dispatched to a reported apartment fire at 990 W. Florida #32 at approx. 3:40PM. They arrived and discovered a bedroom on fire in the upstairs apartment. They were quickly able to extinguish the fire. A mother and her two children were home at the time of the fire, but managed to escape unharmed. An investigation determined the fire originated on the bed in the room and appears to have been caused by a child with a cigarette lighter. Red Cross is assisting the occupants of the apartment and occupants of the apartment below it. No firefighters were injured. REMINDER: Please keep all smoking materials, lighters, matches, out of reach of children.
