Saturday, January 20, 2018, at approximately 10:31 pm, Beaumont Police Officers responded to the area of IH-10 and Washington in reference to a stolen black 2002 Chevrolet Impala. The owner and a witness were following the stolen vehicle. The owner said the vehicle was stolen from the parking lot of K1 gas station (185 N. 23rd, Beaumont, TX).
Beaumont Police and Jefferson County Deputies, located the vehicle near mile marker 833 on IH-10. They tried to initiate a traffic stop but the operator of the vehicle would not pull over. A vehicle pursuit ensued for approximately 6 miles. The driver stopped the vehicle in the 28200 block of TX-124, exited the vehicle, and ran into the woods. He was detained by Officer Little and his K9 partner Joris. He was identified as Chester Smith, a 32 year old Groves man.

EMS arrived on scene to check Smith`s injuries from the K9 bite.
Smith was transported to Baptist Hospital, cleared for jail, then transported to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility. Smith was booked in for the UUMV (Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle) and Evading in a Motor Vehicle.
