Icy Weather Event Update

Tuesday, January 16, 2018 from 3:00 pm to Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 3:00 pm, Beaumont Police Dispatchers answered over 1700 phone calls. A large majority of the calls were questions or information about roadways.   Officers responded to over 400 calls for service.  At least 100 of those calls were minor crashes, some with numerous vehicles.  16 of the calls were major crashes.   4 patrol vehicles were struck while officers were investigating crashes.  2 patrol vehicles had major damage and 2 had minor damage.  1 officer was injured and transported to the hospital, treated and released.

One major call involved a rollover crash at IH-10 and Washington.  A 58 year old man from San Juan, Texas  was initially reported to be deceased.  EMS continued to work on him and transported him to the hospital.  He was revived and is in critical condition. Investigators responded to numerous crashes and did not get the information that the male had been revived until much later.  His injuries are life threatening and still unknown if they are medical or all crash related.

At approximately 9:41 pm, officers responded to a major crash in the 900 block of IH-10 North.  A 21 year old Beaumont  woman struck the freeway retaining wall with her black Dodge Avenger and exited the vehicle to look at the damage. Witnesses said a black  Ford F150 struck the Avenger and pinned the female between the car and the retaining wall.  The driver of the truck stopped, got out of the vehicle, and then left the scene without helping the female or waiting to speak with officers. One witness said the male may be a bald,  Asian male in his late 20’s.   If you witnessed this hit and run crash, contact traffic investigators at 409-880-3865.

The female victim is in critical condition.
