Because Beaumont Police Department’s patrol officers and Lamar University Police Department’s officers worked so bravely and seamlessly together, a very dangerous disturbance involving multiple weapons came to a peaceful resolution in Beaumont’s South Park neighborhood this afternoon.
On 11/11/15 officers were dispatched to the 4600 block of Maddox, in reference to a large disturbance.  Officers were told by dispatchers that gunshots had been heard.   After both LUPD and BPD officers arrived in the area, they learned that 18 year old Beaumont resident, Kareem Ephraim, fired several shots at a group of people that were there to confront him concerning a burglary that had taken place earlier in the day.  During the confrontation, Ephraim came out of the residence carrying a shot gun and a handgun. Ephraim fired several rounds at the group, retreated back into the residence, and then temporarily barricaded himself inside.  A perimeter was established and a Beaumont Police Officer was able to make contact with Ephraim, convincing him to exit the residence peacefully. Ephraim was taken into custody and booked for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.  Thankfully, no one was hurt.
