Friday, November 18, 2016 at 10:05 AM,  a U.S. Postal Carrier called to report that he had been assaulted while delivering mail in the area of Pittsburgh and E. Lucas. The postal carrier was in his visibly marked vehicle and stopped at the corner of Lucas and Cleveland when the suspect, Ron Cooper, 30 year old man,  walked up to the postal carrier’s vehicle and punched him once in the face with his fist. Cooper walked away without saying anything while the postal carrier, a 42 year veteran employee of the U.S. Postal Service, maintained control of his vehicle, called 911 and followed Cooper. Officers arrived in the area and took the suspect into custody without incident. Cooper gave no reason for striking the postal carrier and refused to give a statement. Cooper was arrested for 3rd Degree Felony Assault and transported to Jefferson County Correctional Facility.  U.S. Post Master and ID responded to the scene.
