On Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at 2:55am, a father was assisting his son with automobile problems in the area of Phelan and Major. The two men were working on the vehicle when a white male, later identified as Richard Blanton, pulled up in a white Ford F150 and asked if they needed help. They declined and he left. A few minutes later,  the father was under  his son’s  disabled vehicle and saw Blanton get into his vehicle, a 2012 red Toyota Tundra, and take off West on Phelan.  The owner called for help and advised he had a gun in the vehicle and over $3000 worth of tools in the back.

Officers located Blanton’s white truck parked behind Market Basket. One of the officers was headed to the registered owner’s last known address, when he spotted the stolen truck turning south on Ave C from College. After a brief pursuit, Blanton failed to navigate the turn at Gilbert and Goliad. He then attempted to run but the officer caught him. The owner’s vehicle was returned with minor damage and missing some tools. The owner’s gun was also recovered and no one was injured during the incident.

Blanton was arrested for 2 new charges, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Evading Detention with a Motor Vehicle. Blanton had 6 outstanding traffic warrants and was booked in for all 8 charges.
