The man that died in the fire in the 2300 block of Calder has been identified as 68 year old William Ray Rogers. Rogers was a transient that was born in Seattle and has been in the Beaumont area at least 14 years. He frequented the Calder area from 11th Street to 7th Street. He was known to people in the area as “Ray” and didn’t have family in the area.
The body of an unknown white male was found at the scene of a fire at 5:53PM on
The Beaumont Fire Department and the police were dispatched to a fence that was
on fire on Calder near 8th St., and while working on putting out that fire they
discovered the body on the other side of the fence. The unknown man reportedly
lived behind some buildings in the 2300 block of Broadway. The camp sight was
surrounded on two sides by a wooden fence. The body was burned.
There is nothing to indicate foul play at this time, but the actual cause of
death is still unknown. The investigation will continue.
