On Monday, February 29, 2016 at 7:30pm, officers responded to 540 S 11th St, the campaign office for Zena Stephens. Dispatch received a call stating someone shot the glass door and a witness was following the vehicle.
Officers arrived in the area and found the glass on the northeast door of the building was shattered. There was a portion of glass missing at the top of the door and shattered glass in and outside of the building.
Witnesses told officers a white Jeep Cherokee drove by the building, a white male pointed a firearm outside of the Jeep and shot towards a female that was in the parking lot. Witnesses said someone shouted racial slurs before firing the firearm. The vehicle continued south bound on 11th St. A witness followed the jeep but lost sight around College St.
At approximately 9:50pm officers located the white Jeep Cherokee and its occupants in the 8500 block Newfield Ln.
Five subjects were identified as occupants in the vehicle.
All subjects were brought to the Beaumont Police Station to speak with detectives about the incident.
Adam Carver, a 19 year old white male from Vidor, gave a confession and was arrested for deadly conduct. He was transported to Jefferson County Correctional Facility.
Detectives are still investigating the incident. The witnesses are busy with campaign duties and will give statements in the next day or two.
Detectives are looking in to similar damage to businesses, cars and signs that occurred in the last two weeks.
