The Beaumont Police Department is monitoring current events both locally and around the nation. The safety of our community and our officers is our primary concern. We agree with Governor Abbott’s statement that every Texan and every American has the right to protest. We further agree with the governor that any violence against others, and the destruction of property is unacceptable and counterproductive. We are working with civic organizations such as the 100 Black Men of Greater Beaumont and the Beaumont Chapter of the NAACP, as well as other community leaders, to help safely facilitate peaceful assemblies of any groups expressing their first amendment rights. The Beaumont Police Department will take enforcement action if any type of criminal offense is committed against any person or property, or if demonstrators illegally impede traffic in the roadway. We will continue to protect citizens’ rights along with their safety.
