At approximately 9:30 AM, Beaumont Fire Rescue received multiple calls reporting a structure fire at 5380 Margo. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire conditions with flames coming out several openings. The occupant, Everett Abbott, age 72, was able to escape before firefighters arrived but he was severely burned with first and second degree burns to his upper body. Mr. Abbott was treated by Beaumont EMS at the scene and then transferred to Air Rescue at a landing zone set up in front of the Village Shopping Center at Lucas and Concord. Mr. Abbott was then flown to a hospital in Galveston for further treatment. The fire appears to have been caused by a space heater and resulted in heavy damage to the home.

Beaumont Firefighters want to caution everyone to use space heaters with caution and always have at least one working smoke detector in your home.
