Patrol Officers made one arrest after a birthday party ended in a fight. Early this morning, at about 2:15 a.m., off duty officers were working a security detail for a large birthday party at the Beaumont Civic Center. As guests were leaving the party, a disturbance took place in the parking lot. That disturbance quickly escalated to a fight. Officers responded to the north parking lot of the Civic Center and saw several men assaulting a 23-year-old man. When the group of attackers saw officers approaching, they ran from the parking lot. Officers were able to catch and detain 26-year-old Kevin Richard. Richard was one of the men involved in the assault.
During the assault, the victim suffered several injuries including a possible stab wound. Beaumont EMS transported the victim to St. Elizabeth Hospital where staff took him into surgery. His condition is unknown at this time, but emergency room staff did expect him to survive his injuries.
Officers transported Richard to the county jail and booked him in on one charge of aggravated assault and one charge of criminal mischief for damage he committed to a parked vehicle.
Detectives responded and are working to determine the identities of the other men involved in the attack. If you have any information that may assist detectives, please call Crime Stoppers at 409-833-TIPS).
