The Southeast Texas Auto Theft Task Force, along with the Beaumont Police Department’s Special Assignment Unit, were recognized by the Texas Association of Vehicle Theft Investigators for the outstanding work done on February 22, 2017. The two units were working together on an operation that targeted auto burglars. During this operation there was a vehicle pursuit that let to the arrests of 7 suspects that were a part of an organized bank robbery crew and had targeted a bank in Beaumont. This operation got a very dangerous group of criminals off our city streets. At the Texas Association of Vehicle Theft Investigators Conference on October 23, 2017, The Southeast Texas Auto Theft Task Force and the Beaumont Police Department’s Special Assignment Unit were awarded the Henry Canales TAVTI Award, which is given to recognize a law enforcement officer or a group of law enforcement officers who have made a significant impact in the recovery of stolen vehicles.
