Tomorrow, July 20, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. the Beaumont Police Department will be promoting two Sergeants to the rank of Lieutenant. The promotional ceremony will take place at the Beaumont Police Department Training Classroom, located at 255 College. Please join us in congratulating Sergeants Matt Laird and James Sliger in their new leadership roles.

Sgt. Matt Laird is an 11 year veteran with the Beaumont Police Department. Sgt. Laird earned an associate’s degree from Lamar Institute of Technology and holds a Master Peace Officer Certification. Sgt. Laird has worked in the Patrol Division, where he has served as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, and most recently as a Supervisor and Field Training Sergeant on 2nd Watch Patrol. Sgt. Laird has also served as a member of the Beaumont Police Department’s Special Response Team for 10 years and is currently a Team Leader. After being promoted to Lieutenant, Sgt. Laird will assume the role of Watch Commander over 4th Watch Patrol.

Sgt. Mitch Sliger is an 11 year veteran with the Beaumont Police Department. Sgt. Sliger has worked in the Patrol Division, where he served as a Patrol Officer and Field Training Officer, before joining the Street Crimes Unit in 2009. In July of 2010 Sgt. Sliger was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Since then, he has spent time as an investigator in Crimes Against Persons, the Burglary Investigation Unit, and Night Detective. Sgt. Sliger has spent the last 3 years as a Patrol Supervisor and is currently assigned to 2nd Watch Patrol. Sgt. Sliger has also served as a member of the Beaumont Police Department’s Special Response Team for the last 10 years and is currently a Team Leader. Sgt. Sliger is a graduate of West Brook Senior High School and attended Lamar University from 2000-2004, before being hired by the Beaumont Police Department. Sgt. Sliger holds a Master Peace Officer Certification, as well as a TCOLE Instructor Certification. After being promoted to Lieutenant, Sgt. Sliger will assume the role of Watch Commander over 1st Watch Patrol.
