The Beaumont Police Department has been made aware of several calls being made to individuals and businesses from a suspect claiming to be from Entergy. This suspect is telling citizens that their Entergy bills are past due and if they do not wire money or meet the suspect to pay the bill, their electricity will be turned off.

These scams can range from Imposter Scams, “You’ve Won” Scams, Health Care Scams, Charity Fraud, and Identity Theft

Here’s what you can do:

  1. Check it out. Call the company and get the real story. These scams can seem believable but no company should ask you to meet an employee at a local place to make a bill payment. Never share your financial information with someone who contacts you and claims to need it and never wire money to anyone.
  2. Please Report Scams. If you spot a scam please report it to the Federal Trade Commission. Call the FTC at 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357) or go online: ftc.gov/complaint

Your complaint can help protect other people. By filing a complaint, you can help the FTC’s investigators identify the imposters and stop them before they can get someone’s hard-earned money. It really makes a difference.

  1. Pass this information on to a friend. Chances are good that someone you know has been scammed. Sharing this information can help protect someone else.
