Yesterday, November 29, 2015 at approximately 4:35 p.m. Beaumont Police Officers responded to the 7200 block of Griffing Blvd. in reference to a disturbance. The disturbance was between a male and female. When officers arrived, they located the parties and began speaking with them.
Officers were able to identify the male subject as Aaron Scott Gibson, age 40 from Beaumont. While speaking with both parties outside, officers noticed that Gibson became agitated. At this time, Gibson ran back into the residence shutting the front door and locking it. A short time later, Gibson started shooting several rounds from inside the residence through a front window towards the officers and the female.
Officer Michael Wirfs was struck in the upper back area and was able to get out of the line of fire. His ballistic vest was able to stop the bullet. Officers maintained a perimeter while SWAT responded. Officer Wirfs was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital and was treated for his injuries.
After several hours, the Beaumont Swat team made entry into the residence and discovered Gibson deceased in a bedroom from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The scene was turned over to the Criminal Investigation Division and is on-going.
