A single-car crash this morning claimed the life of a 68-year-old Jefferson County resident.

At about 10:47 a.m., Patrol Officers responded to the 1500 block of S. Major to the reported crash.  Officers, along with Beaumont Fire and EMS personnel, arrived at the scene and discovered the female driver deceased.

At this early stage of the investigation, Traffic Unit Investigators have been able to determine that the female driver, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, had been traveling northbound on S. Major.  As she crossed Washington Blvd, for some yet to be determined reason, the female began to veer off the roadway.  The vehicle came to a rest after striking a telephone pole head on.  The driver was wearing her safety belt so she was not ejected from the vehicle.  She was, however, pronounced deceased at the scene.

Traffic Unit investigators identified the driver as Dorothy C. Williams.  Officers were able to notify Williams’ next of kin.

Judge Ken Dollinger has ordered an autopsy to attempt to determine the exact cause of William’s death.
