Thursday, June 3, 2021 at 8:32 PM, Officers responded to a burglary in progress at Cowboy Powersports, located at 1280 IH-10 South.
Upon arrival Officers observed damage to the business and two males pushing dirt bikes through the south parking lot. Officers apprehended a 17 year old male, identified as Arthur Lee Stewart, in the parking lot of the Quality Inn. Officers, with the assistance of a K-9, located a second male hiding in an abandoned vehicle that was on the freeway. He was identified as 18 year old Trayvon Dwayne Brumfield.
A U-Haul that was parked in the parking lot of 1310 IH-10 S, sped off with two dirt bikes in the back. Officers located the U-Haul headed east bound on IH-10 E. The driver wrecked the U-Haul in Orange and ran into a wooded area. Officers searched for the suspect but were unable to locate him.
The U-Haul and two dirt bikes as well as four dirt bikes that were left on scene, were all recovered. (the total value of the six stolen dirt bikes was approximately $53,000)
Stewart and Brumfield were arrested and transported to Jefferson County Correctional Facility. They were both booked in for Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity ($5,000 bond) and Evading Arrest ($1000 bond). The suspects were all from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
